Lockdown eases
Welcome back to business for the Prince Albert:
 |
Matt is serving from the hatch for the moment. Drinks menu on the chalkboard served in litre bottles! |
Here is the takeaway food menu. It is vegan. Matt says, don’t be put off. This is good and tasty food, that is sustainable and right in the heart of our community. |
 |
Looking forward to the prospect of some alfresco eating. Watch this space.
Carwash, 1A Earl Street
During the lockdown, the Committee continues to meet remotely online. The new carwash on Earl Street has raised concerns by residents. Current situation and action can be found on the planning page.
Latest 9 May – From local MP, Sally-Ann Hart
Last week some residents received a mailshot from Sally-Ann Hart MP. We are aware that some residents did not receive it even though it came through the post. The document contains a lot of useful information and telephone numbers. The front page is reproduced below, the whole document has been scanned and can be downloaded here.

Latest 22 April – From Southern Water
We’re continuing to refine and improve the support available during the pandemic and are trying to reach as many customers as possible, which can be a challenge.
We would be grateful if you’re able to share the attached pdf document, either via your social media or website or directly with people you may think will benefit from extra help, and the regular updates messages we’re providing through our Facebook and Twitter.
Our operations teams are still working hard to maintain our essential services, but we know service issues may still occur. The best way for customers to contact us in an emergency is on 0330 303 0368 to ensure any issues are promptly addressed and properly recorded. More information about the adjustments we’re making can be found here.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there’s any more information we can provide.
Many thanks,
Latest: 17 April 2020 – Message from Hastings Borough Council
We also want to help our residents with on-street resident permits provided by East Sussex County Council especially those who may be self-isolating and are struggling to find somewhere to park. Hastings Borough Council is offering free parking in council-owned off-street car parks to displaced on-street resident permit holders for the next 12 weeks.
Eligible residents should email HBC Parking Services at parking@hastings.gov.uk the confirmation email they received from East Sussex County Council when they purchased their permit with ‘Resident Permit Holder’ in the subject line.
Latest: 1 April 2020 (not an April fool)
Hastings Voluntary Action have established a Telephone Befriending Service. For more about volunteering or accessing, following this link.
Latest: 25 March 2020
Thank you to residents who have been in touch either by email or by calling our new dedicated number, 07572 897 918
Hastings Voluntary action is looking for volunteers to deliver food: contact debby@hastingsvoluntaryaction.org.uk
There has also been a huge response from the public volunteering to help in the effort to defeat the virus and help those in self-isolation, or just isolated, get through this difficult time.
Independent of the residents’ group, you can volunteer – like almost 1/2 million others – safely to help. Go to https://www.goodsamapp.org/NHS and volunteer. Unfortunately there is no phone option. These are the tasks people are volunteering for:

STAR and Coronavirus/Covid-19
The Coronavirus/Covid-19 will have an impact on all of us: our work, leisure, family, accessing services, shops and other people.
As a response, the Committee is looking at supporting a community effort to help residents cope. For example, if individuals are self-isolating, helping with basics such as shopping, loneliness, dog walking, etc. Much will depend on whether we have volunteers beyond the committee.
For the most recent news that we have about support issues, please go to our Covid-19 (tab on the top).
We have a residents’ phone number: 07572 897 918
Our email address is: starresidents_hastings@hotmail.com
We’ve set up a Facebook page as well: ST Andrews Residents Association (StAR) – also accessible by typing in https://tinyurl.com/ujg5ffq
More details are coming about how we can safely do these things; similar efforts and action is taking place elsewhere in Hastings.
We are aware that there are fraudsters around. Be very careful who you open your door to. Do not give any bank details. We are not aware as yet that anyone will come to your door to test for the virus.
The Council has advice on its website – https://www.hastings.gov.uk/my-council/covid19/ – but no dedicated phone number. The switchboard is: 01424 451066

Increased activity – drugs
In recent weeks many residents have noticed considerable drug dealing activity in the square and neighbouring streets.
STAR streets have been the subject of drugs raids. In one incident, one of our members’ houses was inappropriately entered by the police. The Residents Association is deeply concerned about the random nature of the entry, whilst supporting a much-needed focus on drugs in the area.
